The FHD (Fixed Housing, Drawer-type) MPO-LC patch panel is a 1U or 4U rack-mount enclosure that houses MPO-to-LC or MPO-to-SC fanout modules, providing the physical interface between high-density MPO trunk cables and individual single-fiber patch cords in data center structured cabling systems. OMC's FHD patch panels are designed to accommodate 1U (up to 3 MPO-LC modules, 36 LC duplex ports) and 4U (up to 12 MPO-LC modules, 144 LC duplex ports) configurations, enabling seamless transition from 12/24/48-fiber MPO backbone infrastructure to standard LC duplex patching fields. The drawer-style design allows the modules to slide out for easy cable routing and maintenance, while the rear cable management brackets keep MPO trunk cables organized and protected. FHD panels are fully compatible with industry-standard MPO-LC cassette modules from OMC and other manufacturers.
Each FHD MPO-LC patch panel houses MPO-LC cassette modules that perform the actual fiber breakout. A typical 1U FHD panel holds up to 3 cassette modules, each providing 12 LC duplex ports (24 fibers) from one MPO-12 trunk input. Each cassette internally routes the 12 MPO fibers to 12 LC duplex connectors (6 duplex ports), with premium LC/UPC or LC/APC connectors meeting IEC 61300-3-35 end-face specifications. Insertion loss through the cassette is typically less than 0.35 dB per channel for standard modules and less than 0.25 dB per channel for ultra-low-loss modules using MTP Elite connectors. The cassette provides proper fiber routing with minimum 30 mm bend radius protection, dust covers for unused ports, and clear labeling for port identification and fiber tracking.
In a TIA-942-compliant data center, FHD MPO-LC patch panels form the Horizontal Distribution Area (HDA) or Equipment Distribution Area (EDA) where the MPO backbone from the Main Distribution Area (MDA) is broken out to LC patching fields. The architecture typically runs: MDA (with MPO panels) connects via MPO trunk cables to EDA panels, where technicians patch LC-to-LC to connect switches, servers, and storage. This architecture supports parallel optics migration: when upgrading from 10G to 40G, only the switch port adapters and patching need to change; the permanent MPO backbone remains in place. OMC FHD panels support this migration path by enabling incremental upgrades from 10G LC to 40G/100G MPO without recabling the entire infrastructure. They also support Type A, B, and C polarity methods with clearly labeled port arrangements.
OMC FHD patch panels are engineered for maximum port density without sacrificing usability. The 1U version accommodates 36 LC duplex ports (72 fibers) in a standard 19-inch rack mount form factor, matching the port density of modern 48-port LAN switches. The 4U version provides up to 144 LC duplex ports (288 fibers) for high-density End-of-Row configurations. The cold-rolled steel housing is powder-coated in black (RAL 9005) or gray (RAL 7035) for durability and aesthetics. Rear cable management includes velcro straps and cable guide rings to organize incoming MPO trunk cables, while front patch cord management trays prevent excessive bending of LC patch cords. Each panel ships with 19-inch rack mount ears, rear mounting brackets, M4 screws, and port labeling stickers. Port labeling is compatible with OMC label makers and standard Brady-type labels.
OMC FHD MPO-LC patch panels are available in 1U (3-module capacity) and 4U (12-module capacity) sizes, with powder-coated steel or aluminum front bezels. Modules can be ordered separately or as a pre-loaded panel-module assembly. Standard module configurations include: MPO-12 to 6 LC/UPC duplex (OM3/OM4), MPO-12 to 6 LC/APC duplex (SM), MPO-24 to 12 LC/UPC duplex (high-density OM3/OM4), and MPO-24 to 12 LC/APC duplex (high-density SM). Ultra-low-loss modules using MTP Elite connectors are available for long-reach 40G-ER4 and 100G-ER4 links where optical budget is critical. Custom configurations including mixed LC/UPC and LC/APC in the same panel, or hybrid MPO/SC fanout modules, are available on request. Panels ship fully assembled with module slots, cable management, and accessories ready for immediate installation.
